Fruit cake or fruitcake is a moist cake with candied fruits, dried fruits, nuts and alcohol. Although it is commonly made around the holidays, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy it rest of the year. It would be a perfect gift as a stand-alone or in a gift basket.

Change the amounts of fruits and nuts as you like. Make it with any alcohol you like. Rum, brandy, whiskey, cognac and liqueur are a few examples. You can also age the fruit cake, by brushing it with alcohol and storing it in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

The recipes we listed below show the traditional version, a lighter and easier version, and also one with buttermilk for a fluffy fruit cake. Rate this post and hit the ‘I made it’ button above if you tried a recipe.
